Can a DUI lawyer really help?

This is probably the most common question asked when a new client walks into our firm.  They want to know how, and in what way, hiring David Black or any skilled defense attorney can help.  And this is a very good question.  Defending a DUI is a time-consuming process; it requires hours of interviews, document review, expert analysis, and more.  As such, they are not cheap to defend.  So, is it worth it?  We answer that with an emphatic "Yes!"  DUI's are so difficult to defend because there is no wiggle room for informal negotiations.  What that means is that in many criminal cases, negotiations can settle a case well before true discovery, investigation, and litigation begins.  For example, it is not very difficult to plead most class 4 felonies down to class 6 felonies in Phoenix Superior Court.  A DUI, however, is a different story.  Because of the torrent of media attention and interest groups such as MADD, the mandatory minimums for first time DUIs have been first raised to include jail, and more recently raised to include substantial jail.
